Color photograph headshot of artist, Pat TroutBorn in New Jersey, I moved to the Chicago area at age 8. Because my father grew up in Arizona, our vacations were usually spent in the West, instilling a love of the wide open spaces. After receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1975 from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, I married Mike, a petroleum geologist and moved to Denver. The energy industry took us to Reno, back to Denver, Dallas, Houston, Jakarta Indonesia, back to Houston, and finally to Sheridan. Along the way, we were accompanied by our multiple Alaskan Malamutes who kept us busy sled dog racing and weight pulling, as well as showing in Obedience and Conformation.

Currently, I substitute teach for Sheridan District 2 in the Junior High and High School. To balance the delicacy of my work in oils, I also paint stage sets for the WYO Theater Gala and teach the High School students how to paint sets for the Spring Musical. I’m obsessed with light, textures, and detail in my art, and I work in a wet on dry oil technique of multiple layers.

After moving to Sheridan in 2006, I finally feel completely at home. I’m the first member of my family to live in Wyoming since 1889, when they wandered off to Montana, Idaho and Washington.
