George Strickland – The Brinton 101
“These paintings were started on location (sometimes called Plein Air) at different times of the year on separate trips. When working in different weather and physical situations outdoors, the degree of finish can vary. Some circumstance allow only time for a quick sketch, yet other times a more detailed rendering might be possible . I then usually take these to my studio for additional detail and tweaking. These small paintings often have a certain truth and spontaneity hard to duplicate in a large studio painting. For me, the charm of those qualities are why we painters love direct painting.
