The Art of John Potter at The Brinton Museum in the Jacomien Mars Reception Gallery, March 15 through April 30, 2017

BIG HORN, Wyo (March 2, 2017) The Brinton Museum presents its 12th Illustrator Show – The Art of John Potter, featuring works by award-winning artist and illustrator John Potter of Red Lodge, Montana. The Illustrator Show opens on March 15th in the Jacomien Mars Reception Gallery and includes more than forty of Potter’s original drawings and pencil sketches from a series of children’s storybooks by author Lynn Estes Friess of Jackson, Wyoming. Lynn’s enchanting children’s books about Carl, an inquisitive chipmunk, and Carl’s delightfully precocious animal friends are published by Mariposa Ranch Press, an independent children’s book publisher located near Cody. Artwork from the Carl series is generously on loan from the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, courtesy of Lynn and Foster Friess. Additional works in the exhibit include a selection of Potter’s colorful, original drawings from the delightful children’s book, Pony Bob’s Daring Ride: A Pony Express Adventure, a story about a rider of the famous Pony Express, with text by Joe Bensen, published by Falcon Press Publishing Co. A reception to meet the artist takes place on Sunday, March 19th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Illustrator Show is available to visitors through April 30th.

The Brinton’s annual Illustrator Show offers students the terrific opportunity to learn about the art of illustration, drawing and sketching and how a children’s book is created and published. The Illustrator Shows have been successful in reaching an audience of thousands of elementary and middle-school students from throughout Sheridan and Johnson Counties. John Potter will be in residence at The Brinton Museum from March 20 through March 24 to meet and talk with school children. Museum Docents are available to conduct school tours through the end of April. To schedule a tour, contact Curator of Exhibitions Barbara McNab at bmcnab@thebrintonmuseum.org or call 307-672-3173.
