Bio

Courtney Caplan apprenticed with Janet Burner at the Tucson Museum of Art School for several years beginning in the late 1970s. Janet introduced her to her own teacher, Harry Holl (born 1922), who had established a vibrant family pottery studio in Dennis, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. Over the years, Courtney worked with Harry on and off, and he encouraged her to create a space that would be both inspiring to work in and welcoming to the public.

In 1985, Courtney built her round rammed-earth studio, Piney Creek Pottery. This year marks the 40th anniversary of that space—a place rooted in tradition, creativity, and community.
