2nd Annual Culinary & Ceramic Experience Artist Terra Hess
Artist Statement
As a child growing up in Wyoming, I developed a deep admiration for the vast and rugged landscape that shaped my sense of place. The sweeping horizons, jagged mountains, and endless skies are not only a part of my past, but an ongoing influence in my work. While pursuing a degree in geology, I stumbled upon ceramics—a medium that allows me to translate the raw, natural beauty of the world into tangible form.
I’ve also been deeply inspired by the iconic imagery and cultural shifts of the 1960s and 1970s. I am fascinated by the counterculture movements that emerged during these decades, which shaped a generation and gave rise to timeless music and art.
My work is a fusion of these influences—an exploration of the connection between nature, sound, and human experiences. In each piece, I aim to reflect the strength and beauty of the natural world while engaging with the emotional depth of music and its ability to evoke feeling. Through clay, I create a conversation between earth, sound, and form, inviting the viewer to experience both the landscape of Wyoming and the music that stirs the soul.
