The Brinton Museum Honored by True West Magazine
Hundreds of museums celebrate the American West (including more than a few east of the Mississippi). But True West magazine says that The Brinton Museum of Big Horn, WY is one of the best. In fact, the institution is #4 in True West’s Top 10 Western Museums of 2017.
“The Brinton Museum is something of a hidden gem, located south of Sheridan on the Quarter Circle A Ranch,” says True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell. “But while it may not be as well-known as some institutions, it does a remarkable job of showcasing Western art in an historic setting.”
Two-time Spur Award-winning writer Candy Moulton and the editors of True West selected the winners for this annual award based on extensive travels, research and firsthand experiences in visiting dozens of Western museums each year.
Moulton cited the Brinton for its collection of works by Karl Bodmer, Thomas Moran, Charles Russell, Frederic Remington and John Mix Stanley. Also featured: a war shirt that belonged to Two Leggings and a Lakota woman’s beaded dress. The collections are housed in the Historic Brinton Ranch House, which dates back to 1892 as well as the brand new Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building which opened in June 2015.
