About the Leather Show
The Brinton Leather Show is an international exhibition featuring eight master artisans of the prestigious Traditional Cowboy Arts Association (TCAA) and twelve Guest Artists. A nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the standard of time-honored craftsmanship in the cowboy arts, the TCAA promotes the disciplines of silversmithing, rawhide braiding, bit & spur making, and saddlemaking, and the roles they play in the culture of the North American West. The Brinton’s exhibit showcases nearly fifty exquisite works by twenty talented artists whose pieces illustrate the fine art of leatherworking, superb bits & spurs, finely engraved belt buckles inlaid with gold and silver as well as intricately braided quirts and bosals, made by artisans from around the area and beyond, including Texas, Montana, Idaho and Arizona as well as Canada and Argentina. Museum Director Kenneth Schuster says, “The Brinton Leather Show for 2018 represents another important collaboration between our curatorial staff and the members and leadership of Traditional Cowboy Arts Association (TCAA). We at The Brinton Museum share their objective of preserving and fostering the high crafts of the cowboy arts and feel that this show is an important step in achieving that mission. The TCAA represents the epitome of excellence in the domain of Traditional Cowboy handwork and boasts a membership that is truly international, their willingness to embrace the work of artisans not officially included in their membership illustrates their commitment to education and inclusion. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Wilson Capron and Nate Wald who served as point riders for the TCAA organization in their co-curation of this exhibition.”
