“The Art of Robert Martinez” includes 36 works which range in size from smaller scale pieces to large scale paintings and encompasses an unexpected vibrant color palette of bright blues, reds and purples, for examples, which blends historic native inspiration with modern day culture. The artist says his intent is “to adjust our expectations on what native and western artwork is” and to celebrate indigenous culture and its history. Robert researches his subjects and also studies photographs to be historically accurate in his representations while at the same time presenting a contemporary focus in the finished work. It’s not uncommon for a futuristic element to also appear in his paintings.

Robert Martinez will present a Gallery Talk at The Brinton Museum on Thursday, August 12 at 7 p.m.
