May 6, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us for an artist’s reception with Bill Reid on Friday, May 6 from 5 PM to 7 PM. The reception is FREE and OPEN to the public courtesy of first-interstate-bank-logo-vector.

Born, Billy Ray Reid, in 1941 in Temple, Texas, Bill Reid served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962. Later he had a variety of jobs and in 1976 was a truck driver for Western Auto Distribution Center. His route included South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico. It was in 1979 that Reid began carving on small wood panels. He is self-taught; his trusty pocket knife was his carving tool. His wife, Catherine, known as Kitty, bought Bill paint sets in 1979 and 1980 which inspired him to begin painting. It was his truck routes through the Hill Country of Texas and its vast landscape that influenced his colorful acrylics, oils and watercolors. Landscapes morphed into imaginary narratives of hold-ups and saloons, cowboy camps, horses at the watering hole and West Texas windmills. Bill and Kitty currently reside in Troy, Texas. The Brinton Museum’s show includes retrospective work.  10 pieces are available for sale. An illustrated catalog of select works will accompany this exhibition.
