The Brinton Museum Leather Shop

Step inside The Brinton Museum Leather Shop, where the rich tradition of Sheridan Style leather tooling comes to life. Developed in the early 20th century, Sheridan Style is known for its intricate floral patterns, fine carving, and precise detailing. It remains one of the most celebrated styles in leather craftsmanship, recognized worldwide for its beauty and artistry.

Resident artist James F. Jackson, an internationally recognized leatherworker, continues this legacy, following in the footsteps of Otto F. Ernst and Don King. Jackson’s work embodies both tradition and innovation, preserving the time-honored techniques of tooling and stamping while passing them on to future generations through demonstrations, classes, and clinics for all ages. Visitors can also find a selection of Jackson’s handcrafted leather and mixed media creations available for purchase at The Brinton Museum Store.
