American Indian Art
Native American Art in The Brinton Museum’s Permanent Collection
The Brinton Museum’s permanent collection of American Indian art is a jewel of the institution. Expanding on Bradford Brinton’s collection of American Indian items acquired during his ownership of the Quarter Circle A Ranch from 1923 to 1936, The Brinton Museum continues to broaden its scope of American Indian art which tells the story of the Northern Great Plains Indian Peoples and also that of the Comanche, Kiowa, Diné, and other Native American tribes. It’s expanding contemporary collections include works by Wendy Red Star (Crow/Apsáalooke), Fritz Scholder (Luiseño), Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Salish-Kootenai), Richard Red Owl (Lakota/Sioux), Roger Broer (Lakota/Sioux), Arthur Amiotte (Oglala/Lakota), Iris Sully (Lakota), Robert Martinez (Northern Arapaho), and Rhonda Holy Bear (Cheyenne River Lakota), as well as additional indigenous artists.
