Tom Lockhart is a representational, landscape artist, born and raised in the heart of San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado.  “I feel that solid drawing, correct colors, and value, along with the atmospheric effects of light and shadow within the landscape, are key to a visually stimulating and interesting image. Painting from life, en plein air, helps to reinforce these visual stimulants when it comes to painting the landscape.”

Lockhard been working as a professional artist for over 30 years, primarily as a self-taught artist. He says he has learned to seek out information, not only about painting from life in the outdoors, but also by studying the artwork of top professional working artists, and being able to take workshops, with many of whom he highly respects. “I feel that nothing takes the place of study, hard work, and painting hundreds and hundreds of paintings.”
