Bill Yankee was born 1954 in Nashville, TN. He came to Wyoming 42 years ago to work on a ranch in the Hoback Basin. In the years since he has cowboyed on ranches in 3 states, taught art at the high school and college levels, and now divides his time between working his own small ranch in the foothills of the Wind River Mountains near Lander, fishing, and sometimes, painting.

The western landscape is a source of constant inspiration for me. I look for out of the way places where the light, color, shapes, and texture suggest a composition. And I am more interested in evoking a reaction or a feeling about the essence of the landscape than I am in portraying a certain place.” Bill Yankee
