Courtney Caplan – 2020 Brinton 101

Courtney Caplan has been a studio potter for 45 years, making mostly functional work. However, a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council 30 years ago, enabled Courtney to visit potters in Mexico who made candelabras. She has been making them ever since.

“These pieces entitled Peace Warriors of Light were inspired by the life-sized terracotta warriors that were buried with the first emperor of China, Qin ShiHuang, dating to 210 B.C.E.

Of course cats make the perfect models, being able to hold a pose for hours!” Courtney Caplan
