Nikolo Balkanski’s paintings bring his European origin and training to his art, and his post-impressionist interpretations carry a distinctive quality that easily captivates the viewer with his portrayal of the subject using sophisticated color and remarkable draftsmanship

He was born in 1957 in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he attended Middle Fine Art School and Art Academy, prior to the University of Helsinki, Finland.

He built a strong following in Europe as a master of portraiture and landscapes, with major exhibitions in Bulgaria, Finland, Sweden, England, France, before relocating to United States in 1984.

Balkanski’┬ás work has been exhibited with Artists of America, Great American Artists, Art for the Parks – Best Landscape Award 1995, C .M. Russell Museum, Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale – Premier Platinum and William E. Weiss Purchase Awards in 2012, Artist Choice Award 2007 and Mike Maier Memorial Award in 2006, The Brinton Museum, Representing the West – Juror’s Choice Award 2007, Paint the Parks – Grand Prize Purchase Award(Mini) in 2012, Colorado Governor’s Invitational where he received Collector’s Choice Award in 1999, Oil Painters of America – Presidents’ Award of Excellence in 2013 National Show, Western Visions and many others.

Nikolo Balkanski is Master Signature Member of Oil Painters of America and currently is represented by Knox Galleries, Beaver Creek, CO, Harbor Springs, Michigan, Mary Williams Fine Arts, Boulder, CO, Spirit in the Wind Gallery, Golden, CO and Wild Horse Gallery, Steamboat Springs, CO.
