ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us for The Brinton Museum’s Annual Gala: Celebrating Women in the West on Friday, June 27.

We invite you to join us for an unforgettable evening honoring the history, creativity, and impact of women who have shaped the spirit and story of the American West and the Quarter Circle A Ranch. As an institution uniquely poised to both celebrate the legacy of women in the West and support their ongoing influential work, The Brinton Museum is proud to host this special event.

The evening begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, light musical entertainment by the soulful singer-songwriter Rebecca Folsom and the chance to bid on unique offerings in the silent auction.   This year we are featuring both B. Yellowtail and Greeley Hat Works during the event, and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase traditionally inspired Western wear and accessories with a percentage of sales supporting the museum.

A plated dinner will be served followed by a paddle raise and live auction to raise vital support for the museum’s exhibitions, collections, and educational programming. Attendees will have the opportunity to raise the paddle in support the acquisition of three original works from the Bison (Isaakiiwaanníash) series by MacArther Fellow and Apsáalooke artist Wendy Red Star.

The evening will close out with lively musical entertainment by Rebecca Folsom.

Don’t miss this meaningful celebration at the foot of the Bighorns! Seating is limited, so book your tables and tickets soon.

RAISE THE PADDLE FOCUS

The artist Wendy Red Star, who grew up in Billings, Montana, is the most prominent female artist of the Crow (Apsáalooke) nation working today. In 2024, she became a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Award. Her work has been exhibited around the world and is in over 60 public collections. The acquisition of works by Wendy Red Star are a high priority for the growth of The Brinton Museum’s collection. As an artist with regional connections and with such a high national and international profile, Wendy Red Star’s will make a large impact on the importance of our collection. The museum has the opportunity to purchase three of her recent paintings from the Bison (Isaakiiwaanníash) series. In this series, Wendy Red Star takes her inspiration from George Catlin’s nineteenth-century paintings of the American West. Just last season, the museum exhibited the George Catlin hand-colored lithographs from 1844 where the artist depicted many bison at least one of which appears in the Red Star paintings. Through funds raised at the Annual Gala, we aim to acquire the following three works which are currently on display on the second floor of the Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building.
