Born in California in 1949, David McDougall lives in Dayton, Wyoming with his wife, Donna, on what was the original 1930s-era home of Austrian-born, German artist Hans Kleiber (1887-1967). Kleiber was close friends with Bradford Brinton who collected his intaglios of wildlife and numerous mountain scenes of the majestic Bighorns. Together, the McDougalls maintain the Painted Skull Studio located on the “Kleiber” property.

David McDougall is currently a featured artist in the 2024 Wyoming Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition and was a recipient of the Wyoming Governor’s Purchase Award last year. He has been a participant in many of The Brinton Museum’s Small Works Shows. In 2018, he was featured in a one-person Brinton Museum Northern Trust Gallery exhibition which included contemporary paintings of the Quarter Circle A Ranch House. Two paintings from this series are included presently in this exhibition of his work.
