COLORADO ARTIST TOM LOCKHART
Tom Lockhart is a Representational, landscape artist, born and raised in the heart of the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado.
“I feel that solid drawing, correct values and colors, along with the atmospheric effects of light within the landscape, are some of the keys to a visually stimulating and interesting image. Painting from life, en plein air, helps to reinforce these visual stimulants when it comes to painting the landscape.
I’ve been working as a professional artist for 40 years. Being primarily a self-taught artist, I have learned to seek out information not only painting from life, outdoors, but also studying with top professional working artists, namely, Ted Goerschner, Ray Vinella, Lowell Ellsworth Smith, Irvine Shapiro & Wayne Wolfe.”
Tom Lockhart has been accepted into the CFD Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show for 19 Years. Several recent awards include Best Small Works International, Best use of Light & Color 2024, Top 100 Finalists in (NOAPS) National Oil and Acrylic Painters, National Exhibition Showcase 2018, as well as the 2016 Online Exhibition & Merit Award Winner. PPWS/CWS, Watercolor Honorable Mention 08/2024. (OPA) Oil Painters of America Western Regional 2017, as well as Signature member in both NOAPS, OPA, and CWS. Third place in the (CWS) Colorado Watercolor Society’s Statewide Exhibition 2018. Best of Show in 3 Plein-Air Competitions in Colorado 2011, SouthPark Plein-Air Festival, Victor Celebrates the Arts, &The Sangre Art Guild. The Only Artist Awarded Region III, with the Silver Medal, in the National Arts for the Parks for Both in 1994 & 2004. Featured in, Art of the West Magazine, Jul/Aug 2018, May/Jun1998. He was featured in Southwest Art Magazine’s February 2006 and his painting was chosen for the cover. He was also in American Artist’s, Watercolor Magazines in April 2000. He was a decade member of the Northwestern Rendezvous Group. Lockhart has won numerous Awards in PPWS, PPPS, Colorado Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year 1990, and others.
